Bigg Boss OTT and TV actress Akanksha Puri recently grabbed eyeballs with her startling claims that several actors and content creators are being “bought off” to join in the ongoing student protests in New Delhi. The protests at Jantar Mantar, organized by various student groups, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) mainly revolve around the recent NEET-UG paper leak controversy and the demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This agitation intensified after a recent crackdown by the police on protesting students and the forcible eviction of activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site.

Puri, widely known for her role as Goddess Parvati in Vighnaharta Ganesh, stated in a conversation with the news agency IANS that the student protests are being “commercialized” and turning into a “marketing exercise.
The main points of her statement include: Being Offered Money: “They [political parties and organisers] are offering money to people I know – actors and content creators, to be part of these protests.” Commercialization of the Protests: Puri denounced the approach the protests are being handled, saying, “I don’t want to be a part of this garbage” and further advised fellow fraternity members, “Please earn money by other means”. Concerns for Students: Despite her criticism of the protests’ direction, Puri expressed her sympathy towards the students. She called the events, the police crackdown and the visuals from protests “heart-wrenching”.
