Amit Shah Argues That Judges Going to Manipur Is a Job for Lawmakers, Not Courts

Declaring that such activities are under the jurisdiction of the legislative rather than the court, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticised the forthcoming visit of six Supreme Court judges to Manipur on March 22, 2025. Speaking at a March 19, 2025 press conference in New Delhi, he highlighted executive and legislative supervision by citing recent government initiatives including a high-level conference on March 1 and a parliamentary committee discussion on March 12. His comments have sparked discussion on the separation of powers, especially in light of the court’s continuous intervention in Manipur’s problem including the extension of the term of the Justice Gita Mittal committee.
