There was a storm on the internet when Yeh Awarapan, the title track of Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Awarapan 2, was released earlier this year, which sparked assumptions that the popular singer had retracted his decision to quit playback singing. His manager, however, has clarified that the release doesn’t signify a playback comeback. According to his manager, the track was recorded as part of earlier professional obligations made prior to Arijit’s announcement to quit signing up for new playback projects.

Previously, Arijit surprised the industry earlier this year when he revealed his decision to stop singing in films. He had stated at the time that he wanted to invest his time in classical music, his own artistic work and individual music releases. However, he had also informed his fans that he would continue to release songs which he has already been signed for, as and when the movies complete their shooting schedules.
Therefore, when Yeh Awarapan dropped, there was an assumption that the singer might have changed his mind. Nevertheless, his manager has clearly said that Arijit is only completing his backdated projects and his already finalised commitments instead of starting a new session of playback recordings.
“He is just completing the projects that were finalised before the retirement was announced. Arijit isn’t doing a comeback in playback singing. These are old commitments,” the manager confirmed to Hindustan Times.
The Vishesh Films Connection
It is also worth noting that Arijit has collaborated again with Vishesh Films, which is the same production house that backed the original legacy of Awarapan. Arijit has contributed numerous significant and memorable tracks for Vishesh Films including ‘Tum Hi Ho’ for Aashiqui 2 and several songs for movies such as CityLights, Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani.
