In a major decision, the Supreme Court's vacation bench, consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, has ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the NEET-UG 2024 exam again. The previous exam, held on May 5, has been canceled due to allegations of a paper leak, irregularities, and arbitrary marking.

The court highlighted that the integrity of the exam had been compromised and stressed the need for a fresh examination to ensure fairness. Despite this, the court has allowed the ongoing counseling for admissions to continue as planned.

The new exam date will be announced by the NTA soon. This decision aims to uphold the principles of merit and equal opportunity in the highly competitive medical entrance exam.

This decision comes after allegations of a paper leak, irregularities, and arbitrary marking in the previous exam, which was held on May 5.

The court emphasized that the sanctity of the examination had been compromised, leading to the need for a fresh exam. As a result, the previous exam's results have been canceled.

he matter was originally brought to the court's attention by petitioners from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, who pointed out several discrepancies, including the unexplained granting of grace marks and statistically improbable perfect scores achieved by numerous students from a single coaching center.

The court's decision aims to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the highly competitive medical entrance exam, thereby upholding the principles of meritocracy and equal opportunity.
