In recent times, the number of cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has increased in China, and it has been causing public anxiety, and health officials have issued advisories. HMPV is a respiratory virus that causes symptoms similar to influenza and primarily attacks children, older adults, and immunocompromised patients. Although it spreads and exerts immense pressure on the health care system, according to experts, HMPV is much less risky than COVID-19, with much more severe symptoms and fewer complications. Effective preventive measures are hand hygiene, mask-wearing, and management of symptoms. Public anxiety caused by the prevalence of the memory of a COVID-19 pandemic has to be addressed and given effectiveness by reminding that HMPV is a virus whose behavior is predictable, thus manageable.
