Explained Microsoft Topological Quantum in Simple English

Microsoft is developing topological quantum computing, a novel method of enhancing quantum computing. Using topological qubits—more resistant to errors—this approach seeks to produce more scalable and reliable quantum computers. A significant advance in this work is the Majorana 1 chip, which uses Majorana zero modes to attain enhanced stability. With a million qubits, Microsoft sees a future in quantum computers able to solve challenging problems in sectors including medicine, security, finance, and artificial intelligence. The basic ideas of quantum computing, Microsoft’s strategy, its effects, and the difficulties the technology encounters are discussed in this paper.
