Exploring Akshaya Patra Foundation: World’s Largest School Meal NGO Transforming Lives  

Serving nearly 2.25 million children everyday across India, the Bengaluru-based Akshaya Patra Foundation runs the biggest NGO-run school food program. Established in 2000 with a goal of eradicating classroom hunger, it has fed around 4 billion total meals. Key PM POSHAN scheme partner, it runs 75 centralized kitchens including a solar-powered facility in Hyderabad. Beyond midday meals, it supplied 244 million meals during COVID-19. Driven by increasing donations and popular confidence in its goal, Akshaya Patra—which is acknowledged worldwide with numerous awards—aims to feed 3 million children everyday by 2025.
