GTA 6 Delayed Again? Rockstar Reportedly Eyes Mid-2027 Release Amid Fresh Leaks

Rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 are already in full swing, further pushing the game into 2027. This newest round of panic began on regular internet forums such as 4chan, and rapidly expanded to social media, fueled by dubious reports of new insider leaks from Rockstar Games. The internet thrives on development drama and the game has a history of moving release dates, so it was only fitting that fans were prepared for the worst.

This is not actually the case in the corporate world. Rockstar’s parent Take-Two Interactive recently hosted its Q4 fiscal 2017 earnings call, and explicitly denied the delay rumors.

This is the Official November Release Target.

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, was not holding back in the meeting with the shareholders. The publisher has confirmed a definite release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, which kicks off on November 19, 2026. This date is used as a binding date and not just a placeholder.

To Wall Street investors, it’s a huge legal and financial statement time to repeat a specific calendar date, Zelnick noted. This is a huge launch window that a lot of the company’s financial forecasts for the next fiscal year depend on. Take-Two is forecasting net bookings to grow to more than $8 billion, a massive rise from the baseline of their current estimates. That increase is entirely due to the huge revenues of shipping the next GTA on time. If they need to stall suddenly in mid-2027, those forecasts would be decimated, and the financial strain of meeting their November target is huge.

So what was the reason for the 2027 rumors to rise? Why did the 2027 news get so much traction?

The tension within the gaming community is not out of the blue. Rockstar’s corporate culture is one of last minute projects so that everything is absolutely perfect. Before making their way to store shelves, both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have seen several major delays.

Moreover, GTA 6’s development road has already undergone a great deal of changes in closed sessions. The initial target was the spring of 2025, but that was delayed until mid-2026 and eventually settled on the end of 2026. The situation escalated last year, when Rockstar imposed its hard return-to-office policy to streamline data security and to accelerate the production. Several employees were subsequently fired for leaking the data, causing a short-term morale crisis at Rockstar North, and therefore many industry analysts thought that the production pipeline would break down. The community was led to believe that the 2027 delay was also due to these structural issues, when an anonymous poster said so.

Summer Marketing, Pre Order Timelines

The publisher is not waiting, but rather is preparing for a major advertising push. Zelnick said that Rockstar will go headlong into its core marketing push around the game this summer, following the World Cup in late June or early July.

Players can hope that this summer push will be the introduction of the long-anticipated Trailer 3, which will allow them to get a more detailed view of the world and the mechanics of Vice City. For fans, the introduction of this marketing push will also be the official launch of pre-orders on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Take-Two has not yet publicly disclosed the exact retail price for the game, but has said this will be made available at the same time as the pre-order rollout. The fact the studio is able to pull the trigger on a major financial push with retail partners suggests the game build is in good enough shape to hit its autumn target.
