But sometimes I feel I am wasting my time trying to educate my countrymen, most of whom are blockheads, whose heads are full of gobar ( cow dung ) or bhoosa ( straw ) i.e. casteism, communalism, superstitions, etc instead of brains and scientific thinking. I sometimes feel I am uselessly banging my head against a wall. And what will I get for doing all this ?
I then feel like Zarathustra who descended from the mountains where he had lived in solitude in a cave for 10 years, to share his wisdom with the people, only to be jeered at and rebuffed by the ‘herd’ ( see Nietzsche’s ‘Thus Spake Zarathustra’ ).
Addressing the sun Zarathustra said :
” You great star, what would your happiness be had you not those for whom you shine? For ten years you have climbed to my cave. You would have tired of your light and of the journey had it not been for me. But I waited for you every morning, took your overflow from you, and blessed you for it.
Behold, I am weary of my wisdom, like a bee that has gathered too much honey; I need hands outstretched to receive it. (121-122) ”
Loneliness and hazards is the lot of such people

But then I realize my job is only to plant seeds. Since I am 79 I will not be around to see the seeds germinate and grow into a mighty tree. Others will water and nourish the seeds, but unless they are planted now how can they be later watered and nourished ?
Those seeds are ideas, and without correct ideas the people are like blind men groping in the dark.

Our national aim must be to transform India into a modern industrial giant, like USA or China, for unless we do that we will never be able to abolish massive poverty, unemployment, child malnutrition, price rise, lack of proper healthcare and good education, etc which have plagued us for centuries.
This transformation can only come by a mighty people’s revolution, which will be protracted, and in which great sacrifices will have to be made, but historical experience shows that every great revolution is preceded by an ideological or intellectual revolution

India is presently passing through the period of ideological revolution ( i.e. a period prior to an actual revolution ), in which the weapons used are not guns, bombs or swords, but ideas.
So my job is to create and present scientific ideas. These will then be examined by others, and if found correct, will be disseminated to others, and those receiving them will in their turn spread them to others, and so on. It will thus be like a chain reaction, though unlike in an atom bomb where the explosion is almost instantaneous, this process will take years, possibly even a decade or more, before it reaches its culmination, i.e. a revolution takes place.

This thought is what motivates me, and is my reward. I will not see the day when my countrymen are prosperous and enjoying decent lives, but I will have the satisfaction of having contributed to the process which has led to this situation
