Hrithik Roshan has come under fire for his remarks on Ranveer Singh’s latest release, Dhurandhar. The actor shared his thoughts on Instagram on December 10. He praised the film’s storytelling but added that he may disagree with its politics. This line quickly drew sharp criticism online. Later he issued an apology for the same on his official social media handles.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, hit theatres on December 5. It stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy in a tale inspired by real events from Pakistan’s Lyari gangs in the early 2000s. The cast includes Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun. The film has earned strong box office numbers and positive word-of-mouth.
In his initial post, Hrithik called the movie an example of pure cinema. He wrote, “Loved the storytelling. It’s cinema.” But he went on to say, “I may disagree with the politics of it, and argue about the responsibilities us filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world.” Netizens saw this as a jab at the film’s take on India-Pakistan tensions. Many accused him of being out of touch with the story’s roots in terror attacks on India.
Backlash poured in fast. Users questioned which part of the politics he disagreed with. Some called it insensitive. Others pointed to real events like the Parliament attack or 26/11 Mumbai strikes, saying the film just shows harsh truths. Comments flooded in, with one reading, “Stop this monkey balancing.”
Hours later, Hrithik posted again on X. This time, he focused on the positives. “Still can’t get DHURANDHAR out of my mind. @AdityaDharFilms you are an incredible maker man,” he wrote. He praised Ranveer Singh’s journey from silent to fierce, calling it “so damn consistent.” Akshaye Khanna got a shoutout as his favourite, with R Madhavan’s grace termed “bloody mad.” He ended with, “A huge big round of applause for everyone especially the makeup and prosthetics dept! I can’t wait for part 2!!!”
The quick shift left many confused. Fans asked, “What happened to the politics of Dhurandhar?” Some taunted him with memes and lines like “Party badal liya sala.” Others saw it as damage control after the first post went viral.
Hrithik has not clarified further as yet. The row shows no signs of dying down. Dhurandhar keeps pulling crowds, but this exchange has added a new layer to its buzz.
