The 2024 rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College had spurred widespread protests and national outrage initially. However, it had again been forgotten by the public due to low TRPs-driven limited media coverage. This article attempts to explore the details of the case, the protests that ensued, and the judicial intervention, thereby drawing attention to the failure of the media to focus on such a case persistently. This highlights the relevance of sustained public and media pressure in attaining justice for victims of gender-based violence as well as ensuring safety for healthcare providers.
