CBI Searches Home of Trinamool Congress Leader Mahua Moitra in Kolkata

In connection with the cash-for-query case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a search at the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra in Kolkata today. This move comes after the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Moitra. Now in the fresh development of the event they have issued a warrant from court for the arrest of Mahua Moitra.

Allegations Prompted Investigation

The anti-corruption body Lokpal had earlier instructed the CBI to investigate the allegations against Ms. Moitra. The Lokpal directed the CBI to submit a report within six months and provide monthly updates on the progress of the investigation. The order from Lokpal emphasized the serious nature of the allegations against Moitra, supported by substantial evidence.

Expulsion from Lok Sabha

Moitra's troubles escalated further when she was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year. This action followed accusations of bribery involving businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Allegedly, Moitra accepted bribes in exchange for posing critical questions regarding the Narendra Modi government in Parliament. Additionally, she faced allegations of sharing confidential login credentials for the parliamentary website with Hiranandani to facilitate the posting of questions directly.
