Mark Carney’s Liberal Win in Canada’s 2025 Election Will be Trouble for India
Mark Carney’s landslide win as Canada’s prime minister in 2025 points to ongoing strain in Canada-India relations, especially over Khalistani radicalism. Like Trudeau’s Liberal administration, theirs is still forgiving to pro-Khalistan elements and refuses to forbid the Khalistan Tiger Force in spite of Indian reservations. Carney’s ten-percent surge in Sikh immigration could intensify separatist voices even further. Although he gives commerce with India top priority, his lack of support of security cooperation runs counter to the promise of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to fight radicalism. Trudeau’s tenure left residual diplomatic issues, so Carney’s leadership is unlikely to heal relationships, which presents continuous difficulties for Indo-Canadian relations.
