Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut are engaged in an escalating war of words over comments made by Ranaut targeting what she described as Gen Z protesters. The spat has evolved from criticism of young people to a personal spat between the two figures, after Ranaut accused Ramdev of “crossing lines” in his comments about her youth and private life. However, there is one critical aspect concerning reports of Ramdev filing a defamation suit against Ranaut that does not currently appear to be fact.

As of 26 August 2026, there is no concrete report or statement suggesting that a defamation case has indeed been announced or filed by the yoga guru.
In fact, recent statements have indicated that he wishes to escalate the spat no further.
How did this spat escalate?
The row actually originated in the context of the protests which took place on 10 August and were related to a NEET (National Entrance Examination for undergraduate courses) paper leak issue. At the time, Ranaut put up a series of social media postscriticizing some the protest demonstrations. The former described those protesting as a “Generation Gutter,” the statement was heavily criticized because she is a Member of Parliament from the ruling party while the statement was about youngsters during public protests, with an Agra lawyer taking action against her.
Ranaut, however, continued with her attacks, asking “why have cockroaches and gutters become famous generation of today?” adding further that she was shocked at how some of those young protesters were speaking their minds when participating in public demonstrations. The actor-politician later attempted to explain herself, stating that her words were directed at “certain people,” and were not intended at “Generation Z.” Despite the explanation, the furore did not subside.
What the row turned into: Ramdev enters the fray and Ranaut hits back.
Baba Ramdev entered the foray by speaking about Ranaut’s comments, and even questioned her previous deeds when making remarks about youth participating in protests.
“How was your (Ranaut’s) childhood?
How was your youth?
What have you done so far in your life?”
asked the yoga guru about the BJP MP during a press conference. Ramdev went on to add that calling young people a “generation gutter” indicates the degradation of humans. Following his statement, the actress posted several stories on Instagram wherein she lambasted Ramdev, asked him to stay away from her bedroom as he’s ‘daydreaming’, and also touched upon the controversial Patajali issue in a jab. “I don’t need a character certificate from you,” she had posted earlier in a reply to Ramdev, in her Instagram story, adding she was in a relationship with ‘yoga’ for ages.
Ramdev to file a defamation case against Kangana?
This is the most cited claim online regarding this feud. However, according to latest available reports of August 26, 2026, Baba Ramdev has made no explicit announcement regarding filing a defamation case against the BJP MP over comments about “Generation Gutter” protest. Quite the opposite-Ramdev refused to engage further with the tussle; the yoga guru was quoted on 23 Aug as saying he did not want to add more fuel to the issue.
“Who isSwami Ramdev is the country aware, who Ramdev is is known to all, what has been achieved and the contribution made.
What we need to do in life should focus on important matters,” he stated in remarks which the Indian Express said were intended to de-escalate the matter further.
In a follow up report dated August 24, a journalist with India Today also recorded Ramdev’s statement as being “I don’t want to talk anything more on it,” saying he does not want to comment on superficial/narrow-minded people.
The latest trend: Kangana still not letting go.
However, after Ramdev’s plea to “not add fuel to the issue”, Ranaut herself went to hit out on people criticising her, including Ramdev and some names from the Indian film fraternity, calling them “publicity hounds who have not achieved anything”. Further, on 25 Aug, the MP had, once again, in a series of social media posts, told Ramdev not to “dream” of her youth and her bedroom by referencing her childhood. She had added that “childish claims” by an “old individual” will not do anything to her character.
Legal issues remain for Kangana even without a Ramdev defamation suit.
The Agrecase is proceeding with Ramasnakar’s complaint. That is, the yoga guru is not the first one who has initiated action against the actress, Advocate Ramashankar Sharma initiated it claiming that Kangana Ranaut had insulted students and their parents with the comments and her actions would lead the youth to the wrong path. So far there has been no word on the lawsuit filed by him against Ranaut.
