But there is something that the fans should be aware of before taking it as confirmed news.
Another delay has not been announced by Rockstar Games. The publisher’s website still has the official date for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI as November 19, 2026, and the May 4, 2023 corporate release from the parent company Take-Two Interactive also lists the same date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Another delay is in the cards after all is being discussed due to the monumental size of the game, delays by Rockstar and various Industry insiders’ comments on how they develop their games.
November 19 Is Still The Date However, the movie is not changing its release date. I Am Legend Is Still The Official Release Date
For now, this remains the official line.
Rockstar has said several times that GTA 6 will release on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In August 2026, Rockstar reiterated the date in its “Extended Look” presentation that showed gameplay captured on a PS5.
On the 17th of September, Rockstar revealed that the official soundtrack for the game will be released on November 19, a day before the game itself, called Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.
The announced tracklist features 34 original tracks, as well as six singles released prior to the album. The choice of release date further suggests that the project is scheduled for Nov. 19 and not in December.
This doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t see another delay, but it does mean that we haven’t seen any official indication that Rockstar has officially pushed the release back to Christmas.
Why Are Fans Talking About Another Delay?
It’s only because of the enormous hype around GTA 6.
The game’s already been delayed more than once by Rockstar.
The game was previously announced for a 2025 release window. In May 2025, Rockstar delayed the game to 26 May 2026, citing that the delay was necessary to meet the quality Rockstar aimed for.
A second delay was announced in November 2025, with the game being pushed to 19 November 2026.
The extra time would give developers a chance to finish the game with the polish players demand, Rockstar said.
And if you think this history is enough to make you more patient, just wait until you hear about what people are saying about a third delay.
Rockstar Is Developing A Very Big Game
We have no doubt that GTA 6 is the biggest game Rockstar will ever make.
Since then, game development leadership at Rockstar has made recent remarks about the size of the game.
Gameplay The game is Rockstar North co-lead Rob Nelson said that the game has been in development since 2015 but it was only after the completion of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 that most of the members of the team shifted to working on this game, as discussed in an interview that Games Radar came across recently.
Game developer says GTA 6 will boast the biggest city of any open-world game ROCKSTAR DEVELOPER Aaron Garbut has discussed the size and scale of GTA 6.
The extension of development process itself not a clear evidence that game is in trouble.
Rather, it’s a sign of just how much trouble might have been there in the first place – which could be enough to make Rockstar cautious before letting the game out into the wild.
Comments From A Former Rockstar Developer
Another delay was hinted at by former Rockstar animator Mike York earlier this year.
York is not currently employed at Rockstar and has explained that he is not in possession of any general information as to the current state of development of GTA 6.
However, he added that if the game didn’t meet the quality of the studio, he’s sure Rockstar would postpone the game again.
Meanwhile, York also indicated that November continued to seem like the perfect launch window and that he thought Rockstar would attempt to push towards that date.
His comments, therefore, do not suggest a December delay.
That’s primarily the reason why waiting even longer remains an option in a project with very high quality expectations.
A Christmas Release Would Make Commercial Sense
Another reason for the move in December is the importance of the holiday shopping season.
A release near the Christmas holiday could position GTA 6 squarely in the crosshairs of one of the largest buying periods of the year.
That makes the possibility commercially attractive.
Take-Two and other industry analysts have already thrown the equivalent of a press conference before the announcement, with analyst estimates accounting for a $347 million dollar price tag. Reuters had previously noted that a delay to November 2026 might help Take-Two by increasing the time till holiday sales.
There is also one reason not to expect that Rockstar would make the decision of forcing the game from November to close to Christmas.
That November 19 launch date already extends the holiday shopping window for Rockstar, with more time for the players to purchase and play the game before the holidays.
Compared to a December 25 date, it would set up a short runway to the end of 2023.
The Physical Version Is A Different December Rumour
Some of the confusion about December and GTA 6 may be related to physical copies.
Rockstar and Take-Two announced the physical version will launch on November 12, 2026, one week ahead of the game’s arrival, and will include a download code rather than a disc.
Previous reports indicated there was a possibility of a physical disc version arriving in December.
That’s a very different argument than claiming that a game is just going to be delayed until Christmas.
The full game is not set for release in December as of now.
Could Rockstar Delay GTA 6 Again?
Technically, yes.
This is an actual date that has been officially set for Nov. 19, but we know Rockstar has already shown that they’re willing to delay a game to give themselves more time if they think it’s needed.
Furthermore, the studio has emphasized again and again that it would focus on quality and polish instead of rushing out a game that is supposed to be released in one month.
That mentality was evident in both announcements of delays.
In the event that serious technical issues are uncovered by the developers in the final stages of testing, there is a possibility that this game could see a delay once again.
However, at this stage, there is no official confirmation that a decision has been taken.
Take-Two Is Still Planning Around November
Finally, the new financials from Take-Two are also a part of the story.
The company still has Grand Theft Auto VI listed in its upcoming section of its future release schedule for November 19, 2026 along with its other upcoming titles.
Additionally, the company has tied its targets for fiscal 2027 financials to the launch of the next Grand Theft Auto game from Rockstar.
That means announcing a move to December would be a major shift to the way the company has been planning its operations.
There has been no such change announced as of 5 October.
What About The November Marketing Campaign?
The recent activity from Rockstar also provides more solid date.
The company shared its “Extended Look” in August and has since further shared official GTA 6 details.
On September 17, it revealed that the official music album of the game would be released the same day as the game.
Pre-orders at the on its website remain open for now and the countdown to release date still counts down to November 19.
Again, this does not confirm the date can be changed, but it does prove that the developer is at least trying to ready the game for a new launch date in November.
