Two big worldwide firms, Apple and Ford, are slowing down their intentions to increase manufacturing in India. India’s huge workforce and expanding economy make it an appealing substitute for China, but both businesses have major problems. Apple and Ford find it challenging to proceed with confidence given problems including low worker skill levels and poor quality control in Indian manufacturers. These issues are causing delays and driving up expenses, which begs questions about the nation’s preparedness to become a worldwide manufacturing center. The causes of their reluctance and their implications for the future of India are investigated in this paper.
