Anti-incumbency against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the governing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is raging fiercely in Punjab. Rising debt and economic mismanagement have the state struggling with a severe financial catastrophe. AAP’s promised educational changes remain unmet, and the crime rate—including drug-related offenses—has skyrocketed. Moreover, there is general belief that Arvind Kejriwal undermines local government by ruling Punjab from Delhi. These elements have resulted in a general mistrust of AAP since opposing parties present themselves as substitutes. Growing popular unhappiness and despair make Punjab’s political destiny still unknown.
