In February 2025 Kash Patel, an Indian-American attorney and close friend of Donald Trump, was named Director of the FBI. Although Patel’s appointment is a historic event for the Indian-American community, his great allegiance to Trump, his attempt to destroy the “deep state,” and his divisive opinions on law enforcement and national security could provide difficulties for India. Stricter examination of Indian immigration, less intelligence-sharing between the United States and India, and maybe diplomatic conflicts over trade and security policy might all follow from his leadership. Patel’s Indian background does not ensure favorable results for India, so his presence raises questions regarding bilateral relations.
