Meta has just entered the market of smart glasses with its technology partner Ray-Ban. Having presented the first version of smart glasses, called Ray-Ban Stories, back in 2021, this time around in 2023, the company can introduce to the public the upgraded version that will feature an improved camera, better audio, and connectivity to Meta’s AI assistant. These came to the market with tremendous commercial success, selling over 1 million units in 2024. The third version by Meta, probably called “Zen 2,” will probably have even more refined features, like an inbuilt display for notifications, enhanced AI processing, and increased battery life. Mark Zuckerberg’s dream of a time when smart glasses might eventually replace smartphones could come true in these glasses. With all the wearable tech market leader being Meta, and next-generation smart glasses poised to revolutionize our interactions in the digital space as well as with technology around us, concern about privacy will always be a relevant issue-the question is the importance of those issues in camera-related and data-security aspects.
