NASA issued a warning today regarding the approach of two airplane-sized asteroids to Earth. One is going to fly very close to our planet on 28 December. These two, though causing extensive regional destruction in case of impact, NASA said its estimations reveal no chance for collision. NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office keeps track of the NEO with advanced telescopes and radar and estimates possible hazards. International cooperation is needed to develop asteroid deflection technologies, such as NASA’s DART mission in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). Continued investment in asteroid detection and mitigation strategies are needed to ensure future safety for Earth.
