Key party leaders are demanding the ouster of Rahul Gandhi at Congress party headquarters amid mounting election losses. While some of the party’s fortunes improved in 2024- with a jump from 44 to 80 seats and Karnataka in 2023-the failures in states such as Gujarat and Maharashtra betrays some strategic weaknesses. Inconsistency in leadership, dependence on legacy politics, and limited regional empowerment have emerged as major issues for criticism. These come at a time when dissatisfactions from figures of the caliber of Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma are mounting calls in Congress for the party to do its utmost to challenge BJP dominance.
