Indian badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy smashed into the Guinness World Record book by creating the record for the fastest badminton smash on 14th April 2023. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy achieved the unthinkable speed of 565 km/h. This Malaysian Tan Boon Heong achieved the same back in 2013, achieving a speed of 493 km/h. Satwiksairaj smashed this record in the controlled environment at the Yonex factory gymnasium, Soka, Saitama, Japan. It takes a Formula 1 car close to 372.6 km/h at maximum speed to even come close to Rankireddy’s smash, making it extremely exceptional in racquet sports. This paper digs into the larger implication of the record, science behind such powerful smash, and the career as well as the partnership of Rankireddy with Chirag Shetty that has made him achieve such extraordinary feats, in addition to a wider implication in the sport itself.
