Widespread disagreement has been generated by the latest incident between podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina on the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent”. Although their offensive comments resulted in legal investigation and major criticism, an unanticipated result has been public compassion rising for both celebrities and higher viewing of both. This paper investigates the complicated interaction of public indignation, media attention, and the dynamics of digital fame in India, so showing how, in spite of the harmful consequences, the debate has unintentionally raised their popularity.
