Kamal Morarka, a Mumbai businessman, who died a few years back, was my close friend. He was a secular person, who used to give a huge iftaar party in Delhi every year during the Holy Month of Ramzan, to which he would always invite me.
In these parties eminent persons, including leading politicians ( of all parties ), distinguished academicians, mediapersons, eminent lawyers, etc were invited.
In one of these parties, Kamal asked the then Pakistan High Commissioner to India, Suhail Mehmood, to sit next to me.
When Suhail was seated, I said to him ” Suhail saheb, I have never been to Pakistan, and I am very keen to go there and see the beautiful places there, which I have only seen on Youtube etc, and particularly visit Lahore ”.

To which he replied ”Justice Katju, you are a former Judge of the Indian Supreme Court. It will be an honour for us to invite you. I will see to it that you receive an invitation from my government soon, and are declared a state guest”. He then gave me his visiting card, bearing his email id and cell number.
When I returned home, I sent several emails to him, but there was no response. I also repeatedly called on the mobile number on his visiting card, but no one took the call.
I wondered why this was so.
I then realized that probably Suhail, on returning to the Pakistan High Commission, must have contacted his superiors in Islamabad, and these superiors must have told him to keep away from me, describing me as a dangerous, undesirable, and devilish person who calls Pakistan a fake, artificial country ( which I do )

I gave an interview in California, USA mentioning this incident to my friend Haider Raza, who is originally from Lahore, but has lived for over 30 years in America
Apart from the unlikelihood of ever getting a visa to visit Pakistan, even if I do get it, the almost certain outcome will be that I will be declared wajib-al-qatl ( deserving death ) and bumped off by religious extremists ( who abound in Pakistan ) the moment I step off my plane, because I have repeatedly said that all religions ( which would include Islam ) are superstitions and humbug.

So goodbye Pakistan, see you in my dreams
