Virat Kohli's Struggles in T20 World Cup 2024

Disappointing Performance in Semi-Final

Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli has been out of form throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. In the India vs. England semi-final clash on Thursday, Kohli was dismissed cheaply in the third over by Reece Topley. This match added to his ongoing struggle, as he managed only 75 runs in 7 matches, averaging around 11 with a strike rate of 100.

Contrast with IPL 2024 Performance

This poor form is in stark contrast to his performance in the recently concluded IPL 2024 season, where Kohli scored over 700 runs with a strike rate above 150. The sudden downturn in the World Cup has led to criticism from all corners, including former players like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.

Ravi Shastri's Analysis

Former India coach Ravi Shastri provided insight into Kohli's struggles in an interview with Star Sports. Shastri suggested that Kohli's approach of going for aggressive shots too early in his innings is not suitable for his game. Shastri emphasized that Kohli is more effective when he spends more time at the crease before attempting big shots.

Shastri stated, "He is going too early for it, especially with Rohit Sharma playing aggressively at the other end. He can make up quite easily once he spends a little more time at the crease."

Rohit Sharma's Support

Despite Kohli's poor form, Indian captain Rohit Sharma continues to back him. After the semi-final, Rohit expressed his support, saying, "He (Kohli) is a quality player. Any player can go through that. We understand his class and his importance. Form is never a problem. The intent is there."

India's Victory Over England

India advanced to the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time in 10 years after a commanding 68-run win over England in the semi-final. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav played crucial roles, with Rohit scoring 57 off 39 balls and Suryakumar contributing 47 off 36 balls. India posted a total of 171 for 7 in 20 overs.

Bowlers Shine in Second Innings

In the second innings, Indian bowlers Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were instrumental in dismantling England's chase. Patel took 3 wickets for 23 runs, while Yadav picked up 3 for 19, helping India secure their place in the final.

Preparing for the Final

Looking ahead to the final against South Africa, Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of staying calm and composed. He said, "We have been very calm as a team. We understand the occasion (final). Staying composed helps you make good decisions. That'll help us make the game through. You got to play good cricket. That's what we want to do in the final."

India is set to face South Africa in the summit clash, aiming to win their second T20 World Cup title.
