Why Kanguva is Getting Trolled: A Review of Suriya’s Epic Misfire

Kanguva is Getting Trolled:

Released with much fanfare, the Kanguva film, touted to be an epic fantasy-infused action film featuring Suriya, was to be helmed by Siva.

However, nothing could be further from the truth as the movie has received very critical comments both from fans and critics, garnering a plethora of bad reviews along with internet memes. Here’s looking at why Kanguva is facing such ridicule and struggling to live up to the hype.

Great But Flops Visually

While Kanguva was marketed as an art house in its visuals and 3D effects, its viewers feel that the visuals could not justify the huge price tag that went into it. Although there are some great visual renders of the landscapes, the overuse of CGI resulted in distracting and almost cartoonish visuals that lacked cohesion.

Many reviews point out how the film’s visuals felt too overwhelming to be immersive, pulling audiences out of the film. Some even cracked that they can create better CGI on their budget laptop than the one made using a multi-million dollar setup.

Predictable Story and Poor Screenplay

The core of Kanguva is a legend of resurrection and valor, but critics have argued that it fails to surprise. The plot unfolds in an all-too-familiar pattern without memorable twists and forces the viewer to experience it as if reading a formulaic fantasy rather than an original epic.

The plot was deemed as trying too hard to be “serious and grand” while offering little substance to care for. Fans flocked to the social media scene arguing that if the film had been worked differently, it could have been a “90s-style revenge tale” but turned out pretentious and unnecessarily dramatic.

Out of Place Intensity in Limbo

Dramatic diaologues are one of the major issues that critisized the film with being cliché and overly dramatic. Attempts by the writers to add weight to the story become overwrought with grandiose expressions and monologues that may not necessarily further the plot or breathe life into the characters.

Reviews compared the dialogue to overly dramatic soap operas. Fans at times make jest of the very serious tone of the film, stating that it’s more unintentionally comedic than epic with lines that feel forced.

A Cast that Tried – But Was it Enough?

The dual role that has been given to Suriya has been the hub of Kanguva, but seems sincere efforts didn’t help the movie in itself.

The acting skills of Suriya was one of the very fewer good points of the movie, yet his script didn’t provide him with enough depth or scope. As co-star Disha Patani has received a lot of bashing, it is left for the viewers to assume she was not needed and the character poorly developed.

Not even the presence of Bobby Deol could hold enough value to otherwise the pathetic performance by a couple of lead stars.

Music and Sound: A Mixed Bag

The soundtrack, which was by Devi Sri Prasad, was what people were looking forward to in the movie. However, while the soundtrack received praise in some corners, the use of sound as a whole did not do much to redeem it.

In many sequences, people noted that the grand orchestration did not fit the scenes, instead lending that unintentional humor to the intense sequences rather than bringing valid excitement to them. Some even quipped that the soundtrack felt like “auditory gymnastics,” overstretched themselves to compensate for the lackluster plot.

Slow-Paced and Overstretched

One of the general criticisms had been that it is just too long. At nearly three hours, one cannot help but feel that movie drags on in some scenes that feel longer than necessary. Critics have pointed out that some subplots could have been trimmed but the movie seems to go on ad infinitum, thereby testing patience. Fans even joke about surviving the movie as being a “battle of endurance” rather than entertainment at times due to the slow pace of the movie which leads to boredom.

Online Trolling and Social Media Reactions

Soon, social media sites were filled with memes and sarcastic comments about Kanguva. Some fans even nicknamed it “Siva’s Titanic” (in the sinking sense) or “fantasy we didn’t ask for.” The viewers, in particular, blamed the marketing campaign that had built up such expectations for the movie. Several users humorously warned future viewers to “bring a pillow” or “get ready for a nap.”

Conclusion

Ultimately, Kanguva may have wanted to be epic and spectacular, but it ends up not delivering much by way of defects that make audiences go home disappointed and critics thoroughly unimpressed. Be it the predictable plot, dull visuals, forced dialogues, or painfully slow pace-the film has been tagged a miss for both the fans of Suriya and epic cinema.

While some elements, including the music and performance of Suriya, were fairly decent, they were never enough to salvage this expensive cinematic exercise. So, ultimately, Kanguva reminds everyone that even the very ambitious projects need a good script and overall execution.
