There are reasons to be sceptical about the 12-minute claim. Ahead of release, most of the reports that have appeared on Jammwal’s character have been about his training and working with an international cast, but the concrete 12-minute figure has not been corroborated in the reporting available to us. Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim in Street Fighter
A film adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name, directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is based on the popular video game series dating back to the late 1980s. A fight tournament ensues, pitting Ryu and Ken against others, but ultimately it turns into a conspiracy.
Jammwal is set to portray Dhalsim, the yoga-fighting, fire-breathing character. In the game, Dhalsim is a stern and sometimes gentle warrior that fights when he has to. Jammwal, who also trains in Indian martial arts Kalaripayattu, has an understanding of the extreme physical strength the role requires.
The film’s international cast stars Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Callina Liang, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The inclusion of Jammwal makes an Indian action star part of a Hollywood adaptation of a popular worldwide gaming brand. Entertainment Weekly
What Vidyut Jammwal Has Said About His Role
In interviews before the release, Jammwal said the role offered an opportunity for a character who shared his interests, including the martial arts background. “I had not played the Street Fighter video game before. We were just on the director’s mind and that is how Dhalsim was shaped by him,” he said.
Jammwal added he initially never thought of working in Hollywood. He saw it as just another act of his career after Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films. PTI reported that the actor said the makers wanted someone from India who was known for action and could fit into the role of the character.
His quotes insinuate that he saw the role as an opportunity to break through to Hollywood with Indian action. A Hollywood debut alone, even if significant, does not indicate the film’s length within it.
Does a Short Screen Time Mean a Small Role?
Not always equal – a character’s screen time and the amount of a character’s importance in a film are not necessarily identical. A few movies have actors onscreen only briefly but earn them a prominent role in the story; other characters may be onscreen often, but not be plot essential.
The reports available before the film’s release also indicated that Jammwal was part of an ensemble that had Dhalsim listed. Seeing as there was no indication of the final cut, it is not sensible to conclude that his part was a mere 12 minutes long or ponder how crucial it is based solely on its length.
This point is especially important for those up-and-coming actors making their international debut, where a part in a big production might just lead them to an entirely new audience – although to what effect will, again, depend on who they play and what happens to them in the story.
Street Fighter Launches October 16
Street Fighter is scheduled to arrive in Indian theatres on October 16, 2026, in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Ahead of the release, Jammwal has spoken about the differences between working in Indian and Hollywood productions, highlighting planning, scheduling and the resources available for action sequences.
PTI quoted him as saying that the difference is not just about the talent, but about the time the filmmaker has to implement an idea. ‘You can imagine an action scene in India of, let us say, two or three months but in Hollywood it might take a few months,’ he said.
It is not officially confirmed that Jammwal is just in 12 minutes of the film until it hits theatres and some credible sources about its final cut is available. But the audiences will get to know the presence of Dhalsim in the film in time to come.
