Following the blockbuster success of ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Drishyam 2’, the new film was already popular amongst audiences prior to release. The opening weekend now takes the film off to a fantastic start at the box office.

Ajay Devgn Returns as Vijay Salgaonkar

The one and only highlight of the film is once again Ajay Devgn who did a splendid job in the role of Vijay Salgaonkar in this film.

Vijay is one of the most popular characters in the Hindi thriller niche. In the initial film, he got stuck into an activity that endangered his family and then fabricated an explanation to safeguard them.

In Drishyam 2, Vijay was always one step ahead of the police as he maintained the masquerade of the events.

The third film will take that story into the finish line.

The new film is based on yet another investigation that targets Vijay and his family. It is no longer a matter of whether Vijay can get away from the law but of whether the house of cards that upheld his family’s reputation can withstand this latest blow.

Tabu Is Back as Meera Deshmukh

Tabu reprises her role as Meera Deshmukh, the police officer who was the first and strongest to stand against Vijay due to her personal stake in the matter.

Meera was at the core of the franchise from the start. She has been digging for answers for her son for years and trying to figure out why Vijay’s family managed to stay out of trouble even when they had damning evidence against them.

Meera is an important part of the third film: Director Abhishek Pathak.

Pathak says, “Her attitude is very different in this film. While in the first two, she did what the law asks you to do, but in the new film, her attitude is different as the personal journey to find the answers takes off.”

Jaideep Ahlawat Joins the Franchise

A significantly new cast member on Drishyam: The Conclusion is Jaideep Ahlawat.

He is cast as Rajeev Singh Tomar who is a senior police officer and gets involved in the case which adds one more obstacle for Vijay.

Adding Ahlawat provides a different investigative face to the third film rather than just the characters from previous movies.

Prakash Raj has now been roped in for a significant role while Rajat Kapoor will reprise his role as Mahesh Deshmukh.

Shriya Saran again plays Vijay’s wife Nandini and Ishita Dutta makes her comeback as their daughter Anju. (bookmyshow.com)

The Plot Expands Than The Previous Films

A major challenge for the creators of the film was writing a third story after the first two movies dealt with so many of the major questions.

Drishyam 2 itself had been able to go beyond the initial story of the original film. Now, the third film is trying to deal with an all-new story.

Director Abhishek Pathak revealed that the team wanted to steer clear of simply carrying forward a popular theory from the first two movies to the climax.

But no, the filmmakers created an entirely new story and a new twist for the last film.

That was significant because the audience has discussed for years what may be likely for Vijay to do next, and if someone is bound to find out his secret.

Why October 2 Matters So Much

The release date is born out of the Drishyam story.

Vijay had constructed his popular alibi on October 2 in the opening film. October 2nd was the date on which Vijay made his biggest alibi in the film.

His family said they had been travelling and had spent the day following a set itinerary.

And that date became one of the most recognisable things in the franchise.

Hence, the filmmakers set October 2, 2026 as the release date for the film’s release in theatres and announced it as “Drishyam Day”. The official trailer described the film as the culmination of the Vijaya story. (youtube.com)

Drishyam: The End is the End of Hindi Franchise

It is evident from the title itself the filmmakers’ intention.

Drishyam: The Conclusion has been called the “ultimate chapter of the Hindi franchise.”

Pathak has said there will be no other Hindi Drishyam after this film.

It also distinguishes the Hindi films from the Mohanlal-fronted MalayalamDrishyam series.

Although the two versions initially shared the same content, their stories have diverged over time. The Hindi version has reached the point of its own conclusion with respect to Vijay Salgaonkar. (timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

This adds more weight to the new movie for the fans that have been watching the Hindi franchise from 2015.

A Promising Start at the Box Office

There has also been a huge opening in the cinemas.

As per the latest reported figures, Drishyam: The Conclusion collected, 62 crore net in India on Day 1 and then about 53.50 crore on Day 2.

This brought the film’s two day net collections in India to approximately 115.50 crore.

Its global gross at two days was reportedly around 177.10 crore.

First-day number Again, according to reports, it was the biggest opening of Ajay Devgn’s career, beating even the opening collections of some of his previous blockbuster movies.

The good start has been helped by the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, the franchise’s popularity and the rush of advance bookings.

(2h 30m) Movie Length

The film was awarded a UA 16+ certification by the Central Board of Film Certification.

Its duration is about 2 hrs 30 mins. (timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

It is playing in a number of premium formats.

It has been billed as a big event release since the previous versions have been so popular and this is being marketed as Vijay Salgaonkar’s swansong.

What Critics Are Saying

Initial reviews have centred mostly on Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s performances.

Both actors received positive reviews from Indian Express, and the new film was described as a fitting conclusion for the franchise. The Indian Express, noted “the work with the old cast and the new narrative are also seamlessly intertwined in the film.”

Jaideep Ahlawat has also been hogging the lime light as the new investigator.

One of the other reasons why this is, of course, a talking point is the ending of the film, for those who have already seen it.

Ajay Devgn’s Vijay Remains the Centre

Of course it is a story of Vijay Salgaonkar again – even with new characters and another case to investigate.

The Calm is the key to Ajay Devgn’s performance, which has been consistent from part 1.

Vijay is no action hero in the conventional sense. His power in this film lies in preparation, observation and an understanding of how people might behave.

That’s been the franchise’s thing.

The third film, that quality faced yet another grueling challenge.

This time, Vijay is up against investigators who have much more knowledge about the previous case and are eager to find answers.
