Ajay Devgn In Drishyam 2: The Conclusion –Vijay Salgaonkar Is Back For Its Last Version

Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar in ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’, the concluding third part of the Hindi ‘Drishyam’ film franchise.

The sequel hit theaters on October 2, 2026, and will bring back one of the most beloved characters in recent Hindi crime thrillers. Daman Singh Bagga, one of the most respected directors today, returns to direct the third installment of ‘Vijay’ franchise. The film picks up where the other two films left off, with Vijay and his family on the run from law enforcement for years. [India Today][1]

The release date is another matter that is linked to the narrative of the franchise. October 2nd is a significant date in Vijay Salgaonkar’s expertly crafted alibi in Drishyam (2015). The filmmakers have now made that date into “Drishyam Day” in the final installment. ([The Indian Express][2])

Ajay Devgn Returns as Vijay Salgaonkar

The franchise’s central protagonist all along, “Vijay Salgaonkar”, a cable operator, and cinephile has also returned as Ajay Devgn.

The character’s family was saved because he told a detailed story to explain the accidental death in the first film.

In Drishyam 2, Vijay took extreme measures to shield his loved ones and conceal the truth from the authorities.

The third film picks up following the repercussions of all that had gone before it.

Vijay is once again under pressure as things get messier in the case of Vijay family.

The trailers had also led to the conclusion that Vijay’s history would haunt him no matter how hard he tried to put up a good story. ([The Indian Express][2])

Tabu Returns as Meera Deshmukh

Tabu is back as Meera Deshmukh, the police officer who has been one of Vijay’s biggest adversaries all along.

Meera’s personal awareness of the case has heightened her awareness of the conflict between her and Vijay than in a typical police inquiry.

The character has continued to seek answers about what happened to her son and her son’s death.

Shriya Saran once again essays the role of Nandini Salgaonkar, Vijay’s wife and Ishita Dutta is reprising her role as Anju, their daughter.

Rajat Kapoor as Mahesh Deshmukh.

Jaideep Ahlawat Joins the Story

Jaideep Ahlawat is one of the big new additions to the third film.

Ahlawat stars as Rajveer Singh Tomar, who then is inducted into the new investigation.

A new investigator enters the picture: Vijay is no longer dealing with the same people who have followed the story from the start.

Prakash Raj has been roped in as well to play an important character.

There is a whole ensemble of familiar faces and new stars as the film takes us towards the climax. ( [India Today][1])

Abhishek Pathak Directs the Final Film

The second one is “Drishyam: The Conclusion”, directed by Abhishek Pathak.

Pathak has helmed ‘Drishyam 2’ and is also co-writer on the third film along with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh.

The Hindi franchise started in 2015 with Drishyam and again in 2022 with Drishyam 2.

The first film was a remake of the eponymous Malayalam film of Mohanlal. The second Hindi film was a huge hit at the box-office, and went much further than the eponymous Malayalam film’s second part. ([The Indian Express][2])

Hindi Franchise Comes to An End With This Film

The line ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ is not a promotional gimmick.

“Pathak has verified that the third film will be the conclusion of the franchise in the Hindi language.

He has also revealed that the Hindi and Malayalam versions of Drishyam are now two different stories.

The Malayalam franchise, led by Mohanlal, can go on a spin-off but the Hindi version is supposed to conclude with Vijay Salgaonkar’s chapter in this film.

Pathak said there will be no fourth Hindi Drishyam. ([The Indian Express][3])

This sets it apart from the many franchises that have generated profit from sequels long after they first came out.

For the Hindi version, the makers decided to conclude the story of Vijay and his family from then onwards with only the third instalment.

A Story Built Around October 2

2 October, the date that has remained integral to the Drishyam story even when it was adapted for the 2014 Hollywood remake of the film.

Vijay and his family fabricated a day-by-day account of his actions on October 2.

… they also stated that they went to Panaji, went to a restaurant, watched a film and lodged for a night.

It was one of the most incredible things in the first Drishyam.

Third film once again uses October 2 as an important part of the identity of the film. The release date was a conscious choice to launch the film on a day that has become so significant in the story of Vijay. ([The Indian Express][2])

What Makes Drishyam: The Conclusion Different?

– Vijay was in the first two films to see whether he would be able to shield his family from repercussions of the event.

The third film is, after a sharp turn, just the tip of the iceberg.

Rather than rehashing the same formula again, the filmmakers have added new characters, and a new case.

For Vijay, Rajveer Singh Tomar of Jaideep Ahlawat is such a contender. And Tabu’s Meera Deshmukh is also in the hunt.

So the film combines the old investigation and the new things about the Salgaonkar family.

The Film’s Certification and Runtime

Before the movie releases in cinemas, the Central Board of Film Certification has given ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ a UA 16+ certification.

The running time of this movie is about 2 hours 30 minutes. ([The Times of India][4])

The film was published on October 2 in Hindi by cinemas.

The Gandhi Jayanti holiday and the extended weekend, too, worked in the film’s favour.

Strong Opening at the Box Office

The film was released to a strong box office opening.

As per the trade report filed by The Times of India, Drishyam: The Conclusion earned an estimated 66.75 crore net in India on day one.

The film is also said to have collected about 95 crore at the worldwide box office on the first day itself. ([The Times of India][5])

The opening is significantly higher than the last two Hindi movies.

Drishyam 2 is said to have released at approximately 15.38 crore net in India while the original, released in 2015, opened at approximately 5.85 crore net. [The Times of India] [5]

Thus, the new film has got a much larger number of audiences at its first.

Biggest Opening of Ajay Devgn’s Career

According to reports based on preliminary estimates by box-office gurus, the opening-day numbers have also earned Ajay Devgn his highest ever opening day.

What helped the film’s performance was the franchise’s popularity and the long gap since Drishyam 2.

We were teased with the second film in 2022, so fans had been waiting for about four years for the new instalment.

Initial reports had suggested the film had gross advance bookings over 60 crore before the film’s theatrical release. 1 2 The huge pre-sales for release had already shown the tremendous demand.

Early Audience Response

Initial responses to the film have been overwhelmingly on the performances and the climax.
