Infosys, on the other hand, has offered as low as ₹2.07 lakh but up to ₹6.95 lakh, with an average of ₹4.14 lakh annually. Wipro offers as low as ₹1.65 lakh to ₹5.73 lakh and averages ₹3.29 lakh for a year.
Such amounts work out to around ₹27,000 to ₹34,500 per month. Costs in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore are several times higher. For instance, just the rent alone can soak up a major part of this money, with not much remaining for other expenditure items.
This pressure makes most employees rethink their career decisions, and some even take up alternative livelihoods that provide better financial security.
Employee Benefits: Perception vs. Reality
The IT companies run advertising campaigns tout all sorts of employee benefits but ground reality is usually quite elsewhere. TCS, for instance provides health insurance, performance-based bonuses, and pension schemes as part of the added package.
However, most employees complain that the overall compensation is not good enough since the benefits hardly compensate for low base salaries. Similarly, Infosys and Wipro allow for health insurance and work-from-home options; however, employees rate salary and benefits satisfaction at 2.8 and 3.1 out of 5, respectively.
Hence, the CTC concept has several allowances and benefits not as hard cash. Then, electricity and laptops are reduced as facilities to reduce the net salary even further and thus save the employee’s financial issue.
Work Culture and Employee Well-being
Work culture in such organizations has also been a concern. Statements seeking more working hours, like suggesting to work for 70 hours a week, have raised a debate on how work-life balance is being compromised.
Such demands not only violate labor laws but are also a big threat to employees’ mental and physical well-being.
Although TCS has designed programs such as “Fit4Life,” which are basically wellness programs, the question is how effective such programs can be in a scenario of working long hours and high-performance expectations.

Considering its peers in the industry, the pay packages for a fresh recruit with TCS, Infosys, and Wipro are rather puny. It must be noted here that companies like Accenture attract talent with starter salaries ranging between ₹3.8 lakh per annum and ₹7 lakh, which is fairly competitive.
As such, with the current level of compensation practices, it also raises questions concerning the long term sustainability of its retention of experienced professionals.
IT employees in TCS, Infosys, and Wipro face a host of challenges that force these organizations to seek a meaningful overhauling of their compensation structures and work culture.
