Manmohan Singh
When was he alive ?
By Justice Katju
Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, who was Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, died at the age of 92 on 26th December 2024.
But when was he alive ?
A man who shamelessly agreed to be remote controlled by Sonia Gandhi throughout his tenure so that he could be esconced on the chair of Prime Minister, a man who was only a bulb whose generator was at 10 Janpath, a man who unabashedly and unrepentantly did every bidding of India’s self styled Empress, a man who struck a Faustian bargain with the devil, was such a man ever alive ? The truth is that he had died long ago on selling his soul, like Judas Iscariot who sold his soul for 30 pieces of silver.
In Manmohan Singh’s 10 year term there were ten huge scams, not of crores of rupees but of lacs of crores of rupees. And since Sonia Gandhi was the effective ruler of India during these ten years, it is a reasonably certain inference that 90% of this huge loot went to Sonia’s Swiss Bank account or other secret foreign haven, to which Manmohan Singh turned a Nelson’s eye, to keep his chair secure.
There was the coalgate scam of Rs 1.86 lac crores, the 2G scam of Rs 1.76 lac crores, thereafter the CWG scam, IPL scam, cash for vote scam, chopper scam, Tetra truck scam, Adarsh scam, Satyam scam, etc. He left it open to looters to loot the country ( of course letting India’s Empress get a hefty cut )
Many people praise Manmohan Singh for having liberalized the Indian economy when he was the Finance Minister. But whom has this ‘liberalization’ benefited ? Has it benefited the poor people who constitute 75% of India’s population ? Not at all. Their lives are as miserable as before.
It has only benefited a section of the business class ( mostly the big business class) who have become richer, thus widening the gap between the rich and the poor in India, so much so that 9 individuals in India today own as much wealth as the bottom 50% of India’s population
This is the grand achievement of Manmohan Singh for which several demands have been raised that he be awarded India’s highest award, the Bharat Ratna
