Rajasthan High Court Got It Wrong by Supporting Arnab Goswami Against Coercive Action
Critically faulty is the March 2025 ruling of the Rajasistan High Court safeguarding Arnab Goswami from coercive punishment in a disputed FIR over a 2022 report on a temple demolition. The ruling ignores Goswami’s history of advancing controversial themes and unproven assertions, therefore confusing journalistic independence with sensationalism. This paper contends that Goswami’s provocative and conflict-oriented broadcasting approach, which substitutes conflict rather than fact-based reporting, compromises the media’s obligation to guide the public. The court’s inaction to hold him responsible highlights the need of a clear line between real journalism and sensationalist entertainment since it ignores the risks of false information and communal divisiveness.
