The Premise: A Promising Concept Gone Wrong
The recently launched “Pretty Good Show,” introduced by Aashish Solanki, has come under heavy scrutiny and criticism for its content and concept. The show, which was marketed as a unique and entertaining platform where esteemed personalities and a panel of comedians roast each other, has instead turned into a cesspool of vulgarity, racism, and sexism.
Aashish Solanki, previously known for his clean and non-vulgar comedy, has shocked many with the extreme nature of this show. The premise of inviting esteemed guests and having comedians roast each other could have been promising, but the execution has been nothing short of deplorable.
Racism and Sexism at the Forefront
One of the most glaring issues with “Pretty Good Show” is the reliance on racist and sexist jokes. In a recent episode, Haseeb Khan, a person of dark skin, was subjected to numerous jokes solely focused on his skin color. This blatant racism is not only offensive but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes. Another comedian, Swati Sachdeva, was ridiculed for her bisexuality, showcasing the show’s inherent sexism and homophobia. Even Aashish Solanki, the host himself, was derogatorily referred to as ‘chikna,’ a term that is a slur towards homosexual men. They have released 6 episodes of the show and all the episodes are full of body shaming, sexism and racist jokes.
Vulgarity and Crudeness: Crossing the Line
The show has crossed every conceivable line of decency. The jokes are crude, vulgar, and often target the sex lives of the participants’ parents, dragging the conversation into the realm of the unacceptable. In an especially disturbing episode, Daahab Chishti was fat-shamed throughout. Jokes about her weight, and tasteless remarks about her near-death experience during COVID-19, where she survived due to funding from Ketto, were made. Comedians even went as far as suggesting her timely death would be better for comedy, a statement that is not only heartless but also deeply offensive.
Ashneer Grover’s Withdrawal: A Respectful Stand
The vulgarity of the show is so extreme that Ashneer Grover, an invited guest, had to withdraw out of respect. Many have applauded Ashneer’s decision, criticizing the show’s concept for promoting such low standards of humor.
The Dangerous Impact on Society
Shows like “Pretty Good Show” are dangerous. They promote vulgarity, racism, and sexism in society. In a country like India, where the literacy rate is still improving, such shows can be detrimental. They normalize bigotry and disrespect, making it seem acceptable to mock people based on their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, or body type.
Aashish Solanki’s Responsibility
Aashish Solanki, as the host and creator, must take responsibility for the content of his show. His acceptance and participation in these jokes are disappointing, considering his reputation for clean comedy. By allowing such content, he is complicit in promoting a toxic environment that undermines the values of respect and equality.
“Pretty Good Show” has failed in its attempt to bring something new and entertaining to the audience. Instead, it has regressed to the lowest form of humor, relying on cheap shots and offensive remarks. It’s high time that creators like Solanki recognize the impact of their work on society and strive to produce content that uplifts rather than degrades.
The backlash against the show is a clear indicator that the audience does not support this kind of humor. The entertainment industry must move towards more inclusive and respectful forms of comedy that do not rely on belittling others. Until then, “Pretty Good Show” remains a glaring example of what not to do in comedy.
