Today, the Indian Premier League has transformed cricket into a financial and cultural colossus. However, with such overwhelming dominance, other sports and potential athletic careers in India are getting adversely affected. Non-cricket sports such as hockey, athletics, and football find themselves sharing the limelight and funds with cricket; disproportionate sponsorships, media focus, and resource allocation make it difficult for other sports to stand out. Many athletes get lured towards cricket due to its high financial rewards and displace talent elsewhere. To create a healthy sports ecosystem, India needs to diversify investments, media coverage, and grassroots development in all sport.
