Moeed Pirzada is one of the most highly respected journalists of Pakistan, who had to flee his country and start living in USA because of his criticism of the undeclared fascist army rule in Pakistan, which has resulted in criminal cases being filed against him on baseless concocted charges.
Moeed has his own YouTube channel on which he regularly posts his vlogs, mostly from Washington DC. I regard Moeed totally honest and upright, but being upright does not necessarily mean being a deep thinker.
In his latest vlog he has expressed his views about developments in Pakistan which I found totally superficial, inane, and lacking any depth.
In this vlog, titled ‘Free Imran Khan–Rising Slogan in US Congress’ Moeed highlights the view that several US Congressmen have raised their voice for freeing Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, who is in Adiala jail since August 2023. He calls this ‘setting a stage’, ‘hawa’, and a ‘signal’.
Moeed calls the Pakistan army generals arrogant and ‘nasamajh’ ( lacking understanding ). He talks of hearing the cases against Imran Khan by ‘independent’ and impartial judges of the Islamabad High Court, who will release him on bail, and regrets there is no ‘thinking centre’ in the PTI ( the party Imran Khan created ).
I regret to say that I find all these statements of Moeed ( whom I otherwise greatly respect for his honesty and fearlessness ) as totally inane, facetious, and a lot of mumbo jumbo.
I have mentioned the situation in detail in the article below, and have explained why Imran Khan is unlikely to be released from jail anytime in the near future.
The basic fallacy in Moeed’s analysis is this :
he totally overlooks the world situation.
As I explained in the above article, today there are two powerful alliances in the world which are hostile to each other (1) USA and Europe (2) China and Russia. Pakistan, since its inception, was in the American camp, getting aid and weapons from America.
But Imran Khan, like former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, tried to steer Pakistan away from the American grip and come closer to the Russia-China alliance ( details are given in the above article, and hence I am not repeating them ), and this has strongly.
antagonized the US Govt.
Pakistan is ruled by its army, but the Pakistan army generals do the bidding of the US govt. This is because the Pak generals are beholden to the Americans in various ways, e.g. their children or near relatives are given high paying jobs in the World Bank, the IMF, or some multinational corporation, or admission with full scholarship in Harvard, Yale, or other Ivy League US University. Apart from that, Pakistan generals are often multi millionaires, with huge bank balances in American banks.
Thus, by controlling the Pakistan generals, the US govt indirectly controls Pakistan. And since Imran Khan had antagonized the US govt, the latter got him removed from the post of Prime Minister, and then imprisoned, through the Pakistan army, just as it had got Bhutto removed from office and then hanged through Gen Zia ul Haq.
So unless the attitude of the US Govt changes, Imran Khan will not be released from jail. Though there was a new US President, Donald Trump, who assumed office on 20th January, as yet there is no sign of any change in the attitude of the US govt.
The US govt really means the US President, not a few Congressmen. Moreover, there are 435 members in the US House of Representatives, and 100 in the US Senate, so how are a few Congressmen relevant ?
So.Moeed’s talk of statements of a few Congressmen shows his utter lack of understanding of American politics.
Moeed’s criticism of Pakistan army generals is also inane, since it overlooks the fact that the generals only do what they are told to do by the US govt.
As regards Moeed’s talk of ‘independent’ judges of Islamabad High Court granting Imran Khan bail, one wonders in which world Moeed is living. Everyone knows that Pakistan’s judiciary is a joke, and is not independent. The toady CJP Qazi Faez Isa who retired in October 2024 was succeeded by another toady Yahya Afridi as CJP, superseding two senior judges. So it is idle to believe Imran Khan will get bail. And even if he gets bail in one case, he will not be released, as there are 186 cases against him
I regret to say this, but Moeed seems to be living in La-la land
