A feature of the 21st century is the hostility between alliances of powerful nations, that is, the hostility between (1) the alliance of the USA and European countries on the one hand, and (2) the alliance of China and Russia on the other.
This hostility is unlikely to grow into nuclear war, as that would destroy all, but it may lead to proxy wars between them, using their local agents.
The present visit of PM Modi to the Quad meeting in USA must be seen in this context. India seems to have joined the former alliance, and the US Government needs it as a counter to China.
However, India imports a lot of oil and heavy weapons from Russia. So its joining QUAD only implies its hostility to China, not Russia.
In fact Modi visited Russia in July this year

But he made a tightrope walk by visiting Ukraine thereafter

How long such tight rope walking can continue only time can tell
