Understanding Christianity: A Journey by Nas Daily
Nas Daily has embarked on a unique and enlightening six-month challenge to study the top six religions in the world: Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and even atheism. As part of this journey, he dedicated one full month to studying Christianity, and his experience has been nothing short of transformative. Nas Daily mentioned that this exploration took him deep into the heart of Christianity, allowing him to understand its essence and the profound impact it has on its followers.
Nas Daily started his journey by immersing himself in Christian literature and speaking with Christian bishops. His quest for knowledge even took him to Israel and Palestine, where he visited significant places in the life of Jesus Christ, such as Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and the Sea of Galilee. Through this comprehensive approach, Nas Daily aimed to grasp the true essence of Christianity and its teachings.
One of the first things Nas Daily mentioned is the sheer size and influence of Christianity. With 2.5 billion followers, it is the largest religion in the world, encompassing about one-third of the global population. However, he also noted a significant issue within Christianity: its division into approximately 45,000 different denominations. These denominations include Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, Pentecostal, Evangelical, Lutheran, Mormon, and Quaker, among many others. Each group interprets Christianity slightly differently, leading to various practices and beliefs.
Nas Daily highlighted an intriguing example of this division: a ladder at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the site where Jesus was crucified. This ladder has remained unmoved for 300 years because the six Christian denominations that control the church cannot agree on where to place it. This situation underscores the challenges that arise from the diverse interpretations and practices within Christianity. Despite these divisions, Nas Daily emphasized that all Christians are united by their belief in Jesus Christ.
The foundation of Christianity, as Nas Daily explained, is the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is regarded as the son of God who came to Earth to forgive sins, teach the truth, and rise from the dead. Belief in Jesus Christ is the core tenet of Christianity, and it is what unites all Christians, regardless of their denominational differences. Nas Daily noted that the impact of Jesus Christ is so profound that our current calendar year, 2024, is based on the year of his birth.
Following the life of Jesus Christ, Nas Daily visited significant locations such as Nazareth, where Jesus lived; Capernaum, where he preached; and Jerusalem, where he died and resurrected. At these places, Nas Daily learned two crucial lessons from Jesus: love and forgiveness.
Nas Daily was deeply moved by the concept of love in Christianity. He mentioned that to be a good Christian, one must love oneself, one’s neighbor, friends, and even enemies equally. This love, known as Agape, is God’s love, an unconditional and Next Level love. Nas Daily noted that Jesus emphasized the importance of love in his teachings, quoting Jesus’s words from the Sea of Galilee: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This commandment highlights the centrality of love in Christianity.
Nas Daily also shared a powerful example of Jesus’s love and humility: the act of washing his disciples’ feet during the Last Supper. This act of love and humility is still practiced today, with the Pope himself kissing the feet of followers and even prisoners to express love and humility. Nas Daily explained that in Christianity, kissing the feet of others is a sign of humility, not humiliation.
The second lesson Nas Daily learned from Jesus is forgiveness. He mentioned that Jesus taught his followers to forgive endlessly, not just once or twice, but seventy times seven times. Forgiveness, according to Jesus, is crucial because it frees individuals from anger and bitterness, allowing them to operate from a place of love and freedom. Nas Daily emphasized that forgiveness is a lifestyle in Christianity, citing Jesus’s words on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” This act of forgiveness, even in the face of death, is a testament to the power and importance of forgiveness in Christianity.
Nas Daily highlighted that despite the divisions within Christianity, all Christians agree on the importance of love and forgiveness. He stated that if Jesus was willing to wash the feet of others to show love, then we can show love to our neighbors in simple ways. Similarly, if Jesus was willing to forgive those who killed him, we can forgive those who have wronged us.
Nas Daily concluded by reflecting on the universal applicability of Jesus’s teachings. He mentioned that one does not have to be a Christian to learn from Jesus; one simply needs to be human. The lessons of love and forgiveness that Jesus taught are relevant to everyone, regardless of their religion, nationality, or background. Nas Daily expressed his belief that humanity would be much better if we all learned to love and forgive.
In his journey through Christianity, Nas Daily has provided a thoughtful and insightful look into the religion’s core teachings. His experience highlights the power of love and forgiveness, the centrality of Jesus Christ, and the challenges posed by the diverse interpretations within Christianity. Through his exploration, Nas Daily has shown that the teachings of Jesus have the potential to unite people and bring about positive change in the world.
