These days a lot of discussion is taking place about the song Vande Mataram. It was sung in Parliament and in the Red Fort on Independence Day for the first time. Numerous debates and discussions are being held about it on various TV channels. A new law has been enacted by Parliament ( The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Amendment Act, 2026 ) by which preventing singing the song or creating disturbance when it is being sung, has been made a criminal offence. Sonia Gandhi has been criticised for allegedly objecting to the 3rd and 4th stanzas in the song

I have written an article about Vande Mataram, given below :

The test of every political activity is one, and only one : does it raise the standard of living of the people ? Does it give them better lives ?
Once we keep the above test in mind, it immediately becomes clear that all the above events are really irrelevant for the Indian people. Does making Vande Mataram a national song, and singing it, abolish or reduce the massive poverty and massive unemployment in India ? Do they reduce the skyrocketing prices of food and other essential commodities ? Do they reduce the appalling level of child malnutrition in India ( every second Indian child is malnourished, according to Global Hunger Index, and the situation has become worse in recent years, India slipping from position number 101 to 107 out of the 125 countries surveyed ) ? Do they improve the almost total lack of healthcare and good education for the Indian masses ?
If not, then all these matters relating to Vande Mataram are just stunts and gimmicks, like building the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, designed to get votes
