I just now spoke on whatsapp to my friend Waseem Barelvi, who is widely acknowledged as the greatest living Urdu poet of India.

I requested Waseem bhai ( as I call him because he is 86, several years older to me ) to send me some Urdu sher ( couplet ) of his which illustrates the victory of Iran over America in the recent war.
I regard it as an Iranian victory because despite the treachorous unprovoked brutal sneak attack of the US-Israeli forces on Iran and the killing of Ayatollah Khameini, many officials, and 165 innocent Iranian schoolgirls, and despite Trump’s bragging that he will send Iran back into the Stone Age and end Iran’s civilization, he has ultimately been forced to end hostilities and negotiate.
Waseem bhai immediately sent me the the following sher of his, which he said was once quoted by an MP in the Indian Parliament :
” Main yeh na kehta hun ki mera sar na milega
Lekin meri aankhon mein tujhe dar na milega ”
I think this sher accurately describes the heroic, valiant, lionhearted fight put up the indomitable Iranians, undaunted by the fearfull odds of facing the military might of the most powerful nation on earth.
The brave Iranians are like David who felled the giant Goliath.
Hats off to them !
