Recently Pooja Bhatt had a chat. It was to be an ordinary trip down memory lane. She spoke to journalist Vickey Lalwani. They discussed her career decisions from her youth. Then onto her personal life in the nineties. It was then, when Bobby Deol’s name was called
She answered the question, she did not evade it. Not a PR filtered non-answer. Rather she made a clean breast of it when it came to her time with an actor. She said that he was a magician man. That was a magical time in her life, she said.

Back then she said that she fell in love with him wholeheartedly. She really asked the interviewee how anyone could not fall in love with a guy like him. However, before she could focus on the details of her love affair with Bobby, she had to first straighten out a ton of industry gossip.
The rumour had been doing the rounds in Mumbai for years. The first feature in which Pooja made her big break was Daddy and it was quite her famous refusal to take up the role of the lead female in Aashiqui. That film was to turn out to be a monster success. The question that everyone asked was why did she leave a sure-shot blockbuster directed by her own father, Mahesh Bhatt?
It’s always been said that a possessive boyfriend coerced her into rejecting the role in the magazine. There were rumours that this enigmatic figure was not propping her up and wanted her out of the public eye. It was a no-brainer that Bobby Deol would be the boyfriend.
Pooja put the whole myth to a rest in the interview. She explained the time frame. She clarified that she had a boyfriend, who at the time was not supportive of her acting career, but it was her. It was definitely not Bobby though. She met Bobby much later in her life. The Aashiqui drama was already an old one when they finally met each other and began dating.
The Reality of Growing Apart
A magic relationship, must come to grips with reality. The love affair eventually came to a close. However, the reason that the internet had its attention was Pooja’s description of that breakup.
No major scandal of cheating broke out. It wasn’t a big yelling session that broke them up. They just expanded in different ways, she said. Things change at the age of 20. Priorities shift. There’s a demand in careers.
Her explanation was very simple. She said it performed as long as it didn’t. That was it.
The interviewer asked for more specific information about the reasons behind the separation. Pooja immediately put an end to that. No, she wasn’t about to sit today and dissect a dead relationship to the glory of all. She made it clear that it wasn’t in good taste to delve into the specifics of its failure. She told the camera she refuses to make it an equation she had with him into a “gossip”. It was an important time for her being with him. She doesn’t want to sell that memory, she wants to safeguard it.
The Rule of Present Dignity
One thing in particular during the interview made the Internet erupt in a frenzy. It was an honorable rule that she had.
Pooja shared her ideas about how to deal with an ex. You must live in grace in this very moment, she said. It’s not only about keeping your own peace of mind. She also had a marriage of her own. She tied the knot with Manish Makhija in 2003. They were together for 11 years until 2014 when they separated. The two lived separate lives after separating. No ticky-tackle of pieces was left behind. No public feuds. They quietly walked away from one another.

She said she’s happy for him, really happy for him, that he’s enjoying this great new thing that’s happening for him in his career.
He’s on a roll and that’s not about to slow down. He is currently working on a much-anticipated new project. He went on to form a collaboration with director Anurag Kashyap for a movie called Bandar. It will be released in theaters this June. He is a waning TV celebrity who is feeling lonely. This movie has already released in the Toronto International Film Festival.
