Fake ₹100 Crore Club? How Corporate Booking Is Saving the Cocktail 2 Box Office Disaster

A sequel that nobody ordered is tanking at the box office The makers of Cocktail 2 are desperately trying to declare it a hit even though the film has flopped at the box office. Cocktail 2 was released in theaters recently, and was directed by Homi Adajania. The makers have left no stone unturned to promote the film.

This, along with a humongous budget of anywhere between 125 crore to 150 crore, seemed to point towards success.

Sadly, it has not come to pass, as evidenced by the fact that there were quite a few empty seats during the movie’s screening in a Mumbai multiplex this week. But, according to the official makers’ posters that show rather impressive figures of over 46 crore coming in from across India and worldwide box office numbers that show over 85 to 90 crore earned so far, things appear much better than this for the movie. “We had such a great opening weekend, 13.50 crore on Friday, then the weekend box office gross was about 46 crore,” producer Dinesh Vijan shared with producers, “and we feel the audiences are really connecting with Cocktail 2, notching up another 4.30 crore plus on its opening Monday, bringing total domestic net collection to nearly 60 crore,”

It doesn’t quite work out though The official net total for the film in India up to this point stands at around 60 crore rupees.worldwide gross receipts are approaching the century-mark, with producer Dinesh Vijan enthusiastically predicting its approach, having added 1.50 to 2.50 crores on Monday and now over 6.5 to 7 crores on Tuesday with word of mouth from urban audiences carrying us through.

When fans try to make their own money The makers appear to be desperately pushing for 100 crore worth of global recognition. One poster being circulated shows figures of 102.70 crore for the worldwide gross in two days, though that figure appears to include money from overseas box office and the film’s pre-sales and advance booking profits. One user, RuTo072, said, “After seeing screenshots of people buying out entire sections for the premiere showing of Cocktail 2 online with the app, I was really excited.

Unfortunately, going into the actual show time, it became clear those ‘ticket sales’ weren’t actually reflecting full house occupancy.

Theaters I visited had dozens of rows totally empty except for people you know are always being pushed for in these events: industry folk and ‘VIPs’ that are just being given their own personal money to pump into the system.’ ‘This method of ‘corporate ticketing’ or buying up thousands of tickets themselves to simulate actual interest for public and trade, before a release. It artificially pads opening weekends for films like Cocktail 2 with no actual ground hype and it feels wrong and dishonest. Advance ticket sales jumped from 27,000 prior to its release a few days back, up to over 70,000 tickets, and in our opinion, that’s a fairly large section of them that’s ‘fake’.” “A Bollywood romanticcomedy drama at 125 to 150 crore can lose it up to half that amount after distributing the receipts of its worldwide sales – this amount only for 100 crore of worldwide earnings makes for a total net profit in the neighborhood of just between two to three crores. That’s a massive loss for something that could be as high as between 6 to 8 crores for the production house for such large investments.” the analyst went on to add.

A stolen beat is always an issue, it’s as predictable as this disaster of a franchise With a totally free window this past week, and only up against a Hollywood kids movie like ‘Toy Story 5’ there was really only this big budgeted Bollywood romantic comedy to play out. However, starting today all of that all changes. Akshay Kumar’s welcome To The Jungle releases worldwide this Friday June 26th, and that will swallow up every screens in almost every major and midtier cinema hall in the country.

According to sources in the distribution industry, exhibitors are being offered a much greater per-screen sum for their cinemas now, that are also beginning to pull all their tickets available for Sale.

Given that the filmmakers behind Cocktail 2 also pushed out an adult rating this time around, limiting its demographic reach, the morning and after-noon show occupancy is estimated at only around 11percent nationally, leaving almost all night shows across the city a viable option, although in our view a night shows occupancy rate of barely even the high-tens, that too, in places such as Bombay and Ahmedabad. So even the 100 croresposter is coming up really soon, the official announcements about what a “box office blockbuster” they had. The producers have decided, it does seem, that the press have had ample opportunity to see the actual gross receipts so far. The filmmakers want to move this ‘disaster” as quickly as they possibly can from cinemas in all and any forms to save face with actors and industry professionals that have had invested both there careers and a good amount of money in this disaster. And after only a little under a hundred crore on theWorldwide screen total in days it appears to be ready to leave cinema screen in the very near future.”

“When an original Bollywood love story was planned to be remade into cocktail, many believed it would have only added to the movie’s success,” the viewer said.

Although none of the filmmakers have either denied or accepted the same as far as our knowledge.
