Although fans flocked to see the movie in the theaters and set up at least a whooping 78crore for the film’s opening day at the worldwide box office, Cheers subsided when story picked off and revealed JVN was not going to achieve what many hoped for. The movie, in which H. Vinoth is the director and writer and which is adapted from the 2023 Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari , starts off promising, with a premise which would leave many in a state of utter shock.
To keep matters ‘tight’ the story features, retired police officer Vetri Kondan – Vijay who picks the child of his deceased companion – the child of his friend is played byMamitha Baiju, that comes his way and then trains her for Indian military to confront international villain named Phoenix – a fictional persona byobbyDeol .
In what looks like KVN Productions’ gamble of a lifetime – its first grand movie production that cost somewhere between ₹300 crores and ₹500 crores to create, Vijay himself earned a massive sum. Sources claims that a whopping ₹275 crores of a filmmaker’s wage went to the superstar, making him one of the richest celebrities around. However, simply lavishing wealth doesn’t ensure quality filmmaking or a tightly-scripted story, fans expressed utter disgust when they walked out of the cinema screens worldwide.

The Screenplay unravels itself The emotional journey is what makes the viewers engage. Yet, in their zeal to cram all the relevant elements of their favourite star’s persona in this swansong – be it political messages, the action, or a sprinkle of every other trending genre – the director and his writers made JVN a victim of rushed narrative and disengage audience emotions for not spending adequate time for the necessary elements. Especially, the story about trauma experienced by the girl from her father comes as extremely jarring, rushed and loses emotional credibility due to the lack of time taken to build the relationship that could establish concern among audience members.
And with its second innings, everything goes off track with a poorly constructed plot where each event is forced to flow with the one prior, leaving the audience in a constant state of “when will this end?” The screenplays for the villain were confusing. Although Bobby Deol’s persona seemed powerful the movie made his character weak with too many weak plots. The poor visuals, the same repetitive patterns used throughout in few sequences created an unnecessary slog during second and third parts of the film and the flashback has been excessively prolonged unnecessarily.
Vinoth acknowledged earlier that the team had reshaped a part of the original narrative to give Vijay an action role and that they had purchased the story for a particular child abuse based scene that had inspired Vijay . But what went for an update instead turned out to be its eventual bane. In their endeavor to turn it into a masses entertainer they completely mishandered the basic concept, and ended with an unappealing blend of social issues, overly dramatic scenes, and what felt like subliminal campaign elements aimed to make a political statement within the last hour of movie which has no justification given with such long screen-time and audience expecting much better given that some acclaimed figures such as Lokesh Kanagaraj and Atlee made special appearances in the film.
Financially and technically marred by leaks and delays The reviews from the critics were the least of the film’s woes – far from it, in fact. Given all that, the makers have had quite an adventure trying to make this movie see the light of day, to the point that not all problems have really been dealt with. Initially scheduled for January 9th 2026 release date the filmmakers were struck with complications when there were reported ‘objections raised’ from CBFC – Board of film censorship where some modifications have to made for a release for the big screens with its festival deadlines looming at the door. In response to this KVN productions pushed for summer releasing and it has unfortunately made little progress to resolve this controversy for weeks.
Come April, and the whole thing came crashing down, in a manner not experienced for even some of industry’s biggest budgets and secrets. As one would imagine, millions lost on data security and security measures, an entire unfinished copy of the movie had been leaked online a few days ago on April 9 – a mere three months before its theatrical debut – by a member of the film’s production. And just like expected, Pirated copies went viral instantly via various social media channels, while the team scrambled to take down links, which only managed a limited few number.
The news became viral on the internet, and all of the unexpected plot twists had been spoiled for unsuspecting audience and diehard fanatics already at wait to catch a movie.
This effectively snatched the pre-release suspense and hype that could have easily secured higher box-office income on the premier day.
