I do not like using harsh language, but sometimes one has to.
With state assembly elections approaching, the Maharashtra government has declared desi ( indigenous ) cows as Rajyamata ( mother of the state ), thus playing the Hindutva card to get votes.

It is only with an eye on the coming state elections that this has been done, though the pretext given is the cultural significance of cows
Many people call a cow ‘gomata’ ( mother cow ). But it simply passes my comprehension how an animal can be a mother of a human being ? Do such people who call cow gomata have brains or ‘gobar’ ( cow dung ) in their heads ?

Some people say that a cow is a mother, because she gives us milk to drink. But then many people drink milk of goats, buffaloes, camels, yak, deer, etc. Are all such animals to be venerated like gods and goddesses ?
I regard a cow as just an animal, like a horse or a dog.
I eat beef where legally permitted like in Kerala, Goa, or the north east, or when I go abroad. Almost the whole world eats beef e.g. in America, Europe, Africa, Arab countries, Asian countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Thailand, China, etc. Are these people all wicked, while we Hindus alone are sadhu sants ?

Some say that worship of cow is part of Indian culture. But there are a lot of stupid things also in our culture like caste system, and looking down on dalits. Should these fatuities also be perpetuated ?
By making this asinine declaration the Maharashtra Governent has crossed the limits of imbecility. It is an egregiously reactionary declaration, aimed at hurling India back into the Middle Ages, just to get votes.
