Is India a nation ?

In my article ‘Sanskrit as a language of science’ I have said that there is a misconception that Sanskrit was only a language for chanting mantras in temples and ceremonies. In fact Sanskrit was the language of free thinkers, who questioned everything, and expressed the widest spectrum of thoughts on various subjects e.g. philosophy, science, art, law, grammar, etc. In particular, Sanskrit was the language of our scientists in ancient India.

BJP’s Gamble in J&K and Haryana Elections 2024: Mandate or Manipulation?

The 2024 elections in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana have set the stage for a historic and polarizing political landscape. What was once considered a routine electoral exercise has now turned into a battleground for power, ideology, and trust. In J&K, the tug-of-war between regional autonomy and national integration has taken center stage, as parties like the National Conference and BJP vie for control amidst rising discontent and growing nationalism. In Haryana, the political contest has been equally intense, with the BJP and Congress locking horns in a bid to dominate the agrarian heartland. The electorate is divided between promises of development and accusations of broken trust. The rise of regional players and farmers’ unions has further complicated the political equation, making this election not just about governance but the very fabric of democracy.
As the results pour in, what’s clear is that these elections have shaken the status quo and ignited fierce debates about the future of governance and trust in both regions.

Convicted Rapist Ram Rahim Emerges as BJP Ally Once Again

The recent parole of convicted rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim, leader of the Dera Sacha Sauda, has ignited a fresh wave of controversy as he rallies his followers to support the BJP in upcoming elections. Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year sentence for raping two of his disciples, has a history of political involvement, particularly with the BJP, which has long sought the backing of his massive follower base. Critics are questioning the timing of his parole, which coincides with key electoral events, accusing the ruling party of leveraging his influence for political gain. This unsettling alliance raises serious ethical concerns about the intersection of criminality and politics, and what it signals for India’s democratic values.

Imran Khan is the bravest leader of the Indian subcontinent

I do not know Imran Khan and have never met him. I am not his friend, relative, or belonging to his caste or creed, and I do not expect anything from him.
Yet I have been supporting him as I regard him as basically honest, and I support all honest persons, whether Indian, Pakistani, British, American or of any country.

Jaishankar Heads to Pakistan for SCO Summit After 9 Years, Diplomatic Hopes Rise

In a significant diplomatic development, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit—marking the first visit by an Indian EAM in nearly a decade. This historic trip comes at a time when Indo-Pak relations have been strained, particularly following the events of 2019. While expectations for bilateral talks remain low, Jaishankar’s participation in the multilateral summit has reignited hopes for diplomatic engagement. The world watches closely as this visit could signal a shift in the regional dynamics between the two nuclear neighbors.

Faith Under Fire as Tirupati Laddus Face Adulteration Accusations

The beloved Tirupati laddus, a symbol of faith for millions of devotees, have come under scrutiny following explosive allegations of adulteration. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat was used in the ghee during the previous regime, shaking the trust of worshippers. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the issue, but the investigation has now been halted as the matter reaches the Supreme Court. As political parties clash, the controversy has stirred emotional responses, leaving the future of the sacred laddus—and the faith of devotees—at stake.

Urdu poetry, the greatest poetry in the world

I have read the poetry of many foreign countries in the world, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Latin American, etc, as well as the poetry in many Indian languages e.g. Hindi, Bangla, Tamil, Kashmiri, etc. I can venture to say that no poetry in the world expresses the voice of the human heart so powerfully, and with such sophistication ( andaaz-e-bayaan ) as Urdu poetry does. In that sense I regard Urdu poetry as the greatest poetry in the world. What a tragedy that there were, and still are, some bigoted, inane people in India who sought to suppress this great language Urdu in the land of its own birth.

Why I am an optimist about the situation in Pakistan

In Pakistan the real rulers are the army. After the events of 9th May, 2023 ( which many people say were stage managed ), a fascist reign of terror was unleashed by the Pakistan army, and about 14,000 people arrested on trumped up and concocted charges, many beaten and tortured, and then incarcerated in jail where they are still living in inhuman conditions. Some have even ‘disappeared’. The judiciary, headed by that shameless, sold out, toady of the Pakistan Establishment, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, has become totally servile, and does nothing to protect the liberties of the people, which was its solemn Constitutional duty, and the media has been largely silenced.

Joker Folie à Deux – When the Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore

Joker: Folie à Deux – The Philox

Look, musicals are supposed to be fun. Even when they deal with tragic themes, they have some kind of rhythm, pace, and joy in the craft. Les Misérables gave us revolution in song, Chicago gave us murder with jazz hands, and La La Land gave us, well, a massive fight over who really deserved that Oscar. But Joker: Folie à Deux gives us musical numbers that feel like a sad clown stumbled into a jazz club and decided to ruin everyone’s evening.
