The “₹370 Biryani” Incident

The controversy began at a “crowd work” scene in the Gurugram stand-up comedy show of Pranit More.

Audience member Himanshu Jangra shared a story of a date when he paid ₹370 for a chicken biryani for a woman. Jangra then proposed that the intimacy was due to the fact that he had paid for the meal and hence he felt that he had the right to intimacy as well. He went on to elaborate in a disturbing manner, in regard to pressuring the woman to accompany him to a “dark park”, even though she was reluctant.

Rather than the derogatory and non-consensual story closing down, More laughed along with the audience, called it the ‘peak Gurgaon content’ and finally gave a cash prize of ₹5,000 to Jangra for his storytelling

The Maharashtra Cyber Police has finally filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra and others.
Charges Filed: Both have been booked under different provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for making sexually colored remarks, sending obscene material and spreading false information which would be likely to create a feeling of friction among the people of the society. They have also been booked on the IT (Information Technology) Act for uploading “obscene” content in electronic form.
The video has been taken up by National Commission for Women (NCW) on its own motion and the NCW has denounced glorification of sexual coercion. The NCW has asked for a formal hearing with Both to be conducted on June 22, 2026 and asked the Haryana Police to conduct a speedy probe.
Official Summons: Maharashtra Cyber Police had issued a summons to the accused to appear for questioning and their statement. Since a formal complaint has been made (FIR) involving criminal statutes, the police have authority to make arrests. The decision to take them into custody will probably rely on their cooperation in the continuation of the investigation process and final instructions from the cyber police and from the NCW.

The FIR and the public response to the biryani comment is not restricted to this. Another video from the same comedy show emerged of a Dr. Sejal Pawar, who is an MBBS student of the audience.

The offending passage in the video, which was likely to be a joke, contained a lot of derogatory and highly objectionable comments on the male parts of medical cadavers employed in educational exercises. This was deemed to be a severe breach of public decency and highly offensive to the dignity of the deceased by the police. Pawar has also been named in the FIR and summoned for questioning.

The Immediate Fallout

Soon after the clips went viral, the effects on the professionals’ and individuals’ careers were immediate.

Job termination: After coming into public knowledge, Himanshu Jangra was dismissed from his job. He then went on to disable his social media.
Public Apologies: Pranit More apologized publicly, admitting that he got “carried away” and that giving his platform to such remarks was his “big mistake”. Dr. Sejal Pawar also issued a comprehensive apology, accepting responsibility for her words and saying that she did not mean to disrespect the deceased or the medical profession.
Industry Backlash: Celebrities like Raunaq Rajani, Sakshi Shivdasani and Kusha Kapila vehemently criticized the video. They were critical of More’s creation of content based on toxic shock value, not comedy.

Police have continued to investigate and are warning content creators and online influencers of the “legal limits” of content creation online.
