Mumbai, December 11, 2025: Music composer Palash Muchhal has opened up about his emotional state after the postponement of his wedding to Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, describing it as a period of depression that has left him grappling with the fallout. The development follows the abrupt halt to their November 23 ceremony in Sangli, Maharashtra, initially attributed to health emergencies in both families.

Sources privy to the matter said Muchhal’s comments emerged in a series of Instagram Stories posted late on December 10, where he detailed the toll of the situation. “This has been the most difficult phase of my life,” Muchhal wrote, adding that he had been admitted to a hospital in Sangli on November 24 due to stress and exhaustion. “I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It’s been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me.”
The wedding, planned as an intimate affair with close family and friends, including members of India’s Women’s ODI World Cup-winning team, was called off hours before the rituals were to begin. Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suffered a health scare—symptoms consistent with a heart-related issue—while having breakfast that morning, leading to his hospitalisation for observation. Doctors later confirmed elevated cardiac enzymes, possibly from the strain of preparations, though no blockages were found on angiography.
Muchhal’s hospitalisation followed the next day, with reports indicating emotional distress triggered by the events. His mother, Amita Muchhal, told Hindustan Times that Palash had been “crying non-stop” and required an IV drip and ECG, though all tests returned normal. “Palash ko uncle se bahut zyada attachment hai,” she said, explaining that he insisted on postponing the wedding until Shrinivas recovered. Palash was discharged later that day and returned to Mumbai for rest.
Observers note that the incident has amplified public speculation, with unverified rumours of infidelity circulating on social media. Muchhal addressed this directly in his posts, warning of legal action against those spreading defamatory content. “My team will be taking strict legal action against those spreading false and defamatory content,” he stated. He urged society to pause before judging based on gossip. “I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never identified. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand.”
Mandhana, 28, confirmed the postponement on November 25 through her manager, Tuhin Mishra, who told PTI that the decision stemmed from her close bond with her father. “Smriti is very close to her father. She decided that until her father gets well, this marriage… is indefinitely postponed,” Mishra said. Both families have since requested privacy, with Mandhana deleting wedding-related posts from her Instagram, including proposal videos and engagement reels shared by teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Shreyanka Patil.
In what has raised concerns among well-wishers, Muchhal’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, visited him at a Mumbai hospital on November 25 and later spoke of the families’ resolve to stay strong. “I think the families have been through a very tough time… we would like to spread positivity as much as we can,” she said in an Instagram Story.
The couple, who made their relationship official in July 2024 after meeting through Mumbai’s creative circles in 2019, had kept much of their bond private. No new wedding date has been announced, though Amita Muchhal expressed optimism to media outlets. “The shaadi will happen soon enough once the dust settles,” she said.
Mandhana, a key figure in India’s women’s cricket setup, has emphasised her focus on the sport amid the personal challenges. As preparations begin for a busy 2026 calendar, including a T20I series against Sri Lanka, she posted a promotional image on Instagram on December 9 with the caption: “For me, calm isn’t silence—it’s control.” The post, part of a smartphone campaign, garnered over eight lakh likes and drew interpretations linking it to her circumstances.
Muchhal, known for compositions in films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has withdrawn from public engagements, with his team citing the need for space. According to industry estimates, the episode has also prompted discussions on the pressures faced by public figures in personal matters, amplified by social media.
Both statements underscore a desire to close the chapter. Mandhana wrote on December 7: “I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same.” She added: “Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time.”
